YMCA – Yurt Village

YMCA of the Rockies
Snow Mountain Ranch, Grand County, Colorado
Use Expansion and Property Renovation

After YMCA of the Rockies came to RLS for assistance in gaining approvals of Grand County’s planning and building departments for the addition of camper cabins on their property, the YMCA asked RLS to assist with approval of several Yurt Villages on the Property as well.  The County initially considered the Yurts to be dwellings and accordingly required the structures to meet the cumbersome and expensive energy and insulation requirements of single-family dwellings.  RLS did extensive research of the County codes, International Building Code and International Energy Conservation Code to address the issues of concern with the County.  RLS has been working with the County to obtain modified insulation requirements for the Yurt structures that will allow the YMCA to minimize the environmental footprint of the development while providing a comfortable setting for YMCA’s campers.
